Mayor’s cricket match raises funds for men’s mental health group

A charity cricket match organised by the town’s mayor has raised over £700 for a Warminster men’s mental health group.

Members of the community attended Warminster Cricket Club to watch the match between the Mayor’s XI and Warminster Select XI, the first in a series of fundraising events planned by Cllr Jack Jones during his mayoral term.

The event raised £730 for We Are Men (WAM), a friendship group providing a safe space for men every Monday from 7pm until 9pm at Warminster Town Football Club.

“WAM do some great work in the local community and raising £730 for them will help them continue to run their much-needed sessions as well as help with outreach and awareness,” said Cllr Jones.

“I am truly humbled to have seen so many friendly faces come along and support the game. We raised some brilliant money for a fantastic cause all while enjoying the weather and a game of cricket!

“Events like this wouldn’t be the same without the support of our amazing community. Thank you to everyone who took part, helped out and came and supported!”

Instead of selecting a chosen charity as mayor, Cllr Jones is planning to support various causes throughout his year in office.

His next fundraising event will be a curry night at the Agra at 6.30pm on Tuesday 15th September, in support of the Warminster and Flers Town Twinning Society. Tickets cost £25 per person. For more information, contact cllr.jones@warminster-tc.gov.uk.
