Premier League final day, comedy gold and Beatles Tribute coming up at Prestbury Sports Bar

A packed schedule of live sports action, fantastic music and side-splitting comedy is coming up at Prestbury Sports Bar over the next few weeks.

Located in the town centre at The Close, BA12 9AL, the popular venue offers a fantastic atmosphere, great drinks, and unforgettable entertainment.

“Whether you’re a die-hard football fan, a music enthusiast, or just looking for a good laugh, we have something for everyone,” said owner Nick Pitcher. “Get ready for a packed schedule of live action, fantastic music, and side-splitting comedy!”

Premier League Final Day Frenzy – Sunday 25th May from 3pm

Don’t miss a single moment of the nail-biting Premier League final day! Prestbury Sports Bar will be showcasing three crucial matches LIVE across five large screens, ensuring you catch every twist and turn as the season concludes. Witness the drama unfold as those coveted European spots are decided. And join them for the F1-style Champagne celebration as Liverpool lift the Premier League trophy! “Get ready for an electric atmosphere you won’t find anywhere else,” said Nick.

Comedy Night – Sunday 8th June 

Prepare for a night of laughter as the PSB presents a hilarious Comedy Night featuring five fantastic acts guaranteed to leave you in stitches. Round off your weekend with top-tier comedic talent and enjoy a relaxed and fun evening with friends.

The Two Beatles – A Magical Tribute – Saturday 5th July

Get ready to twist and shout! Prestbury Sports Bar is thrilled to welcome The Two Beatles, a fantastic live tribute act. “Relive the iconic hits and timeless classics of the Fab Four in an intimate and vibrant setting,” said Nick. “This is a night no music lover will want to miss. Book your table now to secure the best seats for this unforgettable performance!”

PSB also hosts live music every Saturday evening with This Way Up on Saturday 7th June and Sitting Duck on Saturday 14th June.

  • Local conservationists reach BBC Make a Difference Awards finals 

The Warminster Toad Patrol and a teenage conservationist have been named finalists in the BBC Wiltshire Make a Difference Awards.

Dexter Painter-Coates, a 14-year-old Warminster Journal deliverer, has been shortlisted in the Young Hero category for his work promoting nature conservation and raising awareness of local wildlife.

He said, “I was really surprised and I couldn’t believe that I had been chosen as a finalist. I was so excited to get the news as it would be another opportunity to potentially inspire more people to get out into nature.”

Dexter regularly posts educational videos online to encourage local people to take an interest in nature and conservation.

  • Ice Cream and Bubbles Festival to return this weekend

The popular Ice Cream and Bubbles Festival will return to the Lake Pleasure Grounds this weekend for a day of family-friendly fun.

The free event will take place on Saturday 1st August from 12pm to 5pm. There will be a free bubble disco and a bubbleologist. Ice cream will be available to purchase throughout the event.

There will also be food stalls, pottery painting, face painting and henna tattoos, as well as milkshakes, doughnuts and desserts on sale throughout the event. The Pavilion Parlour will also be open, serving refreshments in the park.

“We’re really excited for another Ice Cream and Bubbles Festival after huge success in previous years,” said a spokesperson for Warminster Town Council, which is organising the event. “It is another free-to-enter event for all the family.

  • Community rallies to rescue swans in danger 

A family of swans has been rescued from a drained lake in Warminster after residents, volunteers and the town’s Mayor came together to save them from a life-threatening situation.

Volunteers from Bath Swan Rescue were alerted to the situation when residents noticed that one of the cygnets from a family of swans at the Portway lake was missing. A pair of swans nest at the lake every year, and local people have taken it upon themselves to regularly monitor their wellbeing.

The swan family were found in a drained balancing lake, which volunteers were told could not be refilled as it is used for flood water overflow. It was decided the family would need to be caught and relocated.

  • Wiltshire declared in drought as dry weather continues

Wiltshire has been declared as being in drought after weeks of hot, dry weather have left rivers, reservoirs and groundwater levels under pressure. 

The county is among the areas covered by the Environment Agency’s Wessex drought area, which also includes Dorset, Somerset and south Gloucestershire. 

The declaration comes after July saw just 7% of expected rainfall across England, falling to 1% across southern England.

  • Man charged following Warminster assault

A man has been charged with grievous bodily harm (GBH) with intent following an incident in a residential street in Warminster. 

Richard Andrew, 39, of no fixed abode, appeared before Swindon Magistrates
  • Woman dies on Warminster railway

A woman in her 40s has died following an incident on the railway in Warminster, police have confirmed. 

Officers from British Transport Police were called to Warminster railway station shortly after 9.30pm on Thursday 23rd July following reports of a casualty on the tracks. Wiltshire Police also attended the incident in the Portway area.

A spokesperson for British Transport Police said, “Officers attended along with paramedics but sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”

Wiltshire Police later confirmed the woman was in her 40s.

  • West Wilts Hockey club enjoys successful rodeo-themed weekend tournament

West Wilts Hockey Club’s ladies section saddled up for a memorable weekend at a summer hockey festival in Swindon featuring 26 teams from across the region. 

Held over two days during a scorching summer weekend, the tournament featured 14 ladies’ teams and 12 men’s teams, with players embracing this year’s rodeo theme. Alongside the hockey action, the weekend included fancy dress, line dancing and an opportunity for players to come together to watch England’s football match on Saturday evening. 

West Wilts, based in Warminster, fielded two ladies’ teams – the Bandana Bandits and the Deadeye Deputies – with a total squad of 18 players ranging in age from 18 to over 50. 

Each team played six matches on Saturday and three more on Sunday. Following a strong opening day, the Deadeye Deputies finished second in their group to qualify for Sunday’s elite Cup competition, while the Bandana Bandits secured fifth place and progressed into the Plate competition.

  • Local children celebrate completing primary school 

Year 6 pupils in Warminster marked the end of their primary school years with a variety of celebrations. 

School leavers at St John’s CofE Primary School were celebrated with a special service at the end of term.

Students talked about their favourite memories at the school and attendees watched a slideshow of photographs of the pupils from their early years until now. Teachers also gave out awards to children who embodied the school’s values of love, hope and trust. 

Year 6 teacher Charlotte Walker said, “I will miss the children greatly and wish them the best of luck on the next step of their journey into secondary education.”
