Over 150 Rainbows, Brownies and leaders from Girlguiding Wiltshire South came together to celebrate 100 years of World Thinking Day.
The 1st Warminster Rainbows and 6th Warminster Brownies joined other local units at Thoulstone Park to mark the Girlguiding and Girl Scouting movement’s centenary at the 100th World Thinking Day.
World Thinking Day began in 1926 as an annual event for all Girl Guides and Girl Scouts to think of each other and express thanks for the international movement. The theme of this year’s day was friendship.
“As well as there being units all over the world, there are five world centres, which is where we focused our activities,” said Emma, leader of the 1st Warminster Rainbows and 6th Warminster Brownies.
The five centres are based in Ghana, Mexico, Switzerland, India and the UK.
“The girls learnt about the centres, tried traditional food from each country and had a go at either a traditional craft or made something symbolic from that country,” said Emma.
“Alongside this, the girls looked at how the uniform and guiding in the UK has changed over the years.
“At the end, everyone renewed their promise. A great day was had by all.”
