The Warminster Athenaeum is holding a special volunteer open day later this month.
The event on Sunday 28th June will coincide with the town’s Summer Street Market and offers an opportunity for visitors to explore the historic venue, meet current volunteers and learn more about the roles available.
Run entirely by volunteers, the Athenaeum has seen a growing programme of shows and events organised for this year and this means that additional help is now needed to keep the venue running smoothly.
Volunteers are being sought for a range of roles, including ushers, bar staff and box office assistants along with opportunities to get involved behind the scenes, including coordinating volunteer schedules, managing social media, supporting fundraising efforts and helping maintain the building.
Vice-chair of Trustees Jon Ellis said, “We have a fabulous venue, totally supported by volunteers, however the more we do, the more help we need! With the increased number of shows and events scheduled for this year (and into 2027!), we are looking for some additional volunteers to help run the Athenaeum, and help it operate smoothly and safely for visitors and guests.
“We are not only a great asset in town for entertainment and community support, we are also bringing people into town helping support our local economy. Of the tickets sold this year, 75% are from Warminster and Westbury residents, 10% elsewhere in Wiltshire, and 15% from outside the county, so if you have the times and the skills, it’s a great way to give something back to the community.”
Phil Keeble, Chair of Trustees added, “We’re holding the volunteer’s Open Event to coincide with the Summer Street Market, which is open for anyone to drop in, have a look around, meet some of our volunteers and have a chat about how you can help. We look forward to seeing many new faces!”
Anyone interested in volunteering can attend the open day or email info@theath.co.uk.
