Air displays, hot air balloons and fireworks took to the skies above Longleat as the estate hosted its Icons of the Sky event.
The annual event, which ran from 11th to 13th September, featured appearances by Longleat’s lion and koala balloons, Simbaloo and Adelaide, alongside nightglow displays and a descent by the RAF Falcons parachute display team.
The event also marked the 60th anniversary of Longleat’s drive-through safari, with the giant birthday cake balloon created especially for the occasion.
Chief Operating Officer Simon Askew said, “It was one of many breathtaking air displays and of course we had the mass balloon ascent kicking off the three days on Friday morning.
“Nightglows to music and fireworks rounded off the daily festivities which were added extras to the day ticket. Sadly, low cloud stopped all but some tethering on Sunday. This meant there was low visibility over Longleat, surrounding areas and the bases where many of the planes were due to take off from. It was also too windy for balloons to fly.
“However, overall, it was a phenomenal weekend and it was lovely to see so many families spanning different generations here. We really appreciated the positive comments and feedback that safety must always come first and the work which went into providing these additional activities to our day ticket.”
