An open evening at Warminster Fire Station marked the start of Warminster Carnival week, with visitors treated to live fire rescue demonstrations.
For decades, the station has opened its doors to the local community at the start of Carnival week. On Monday 20th October, the tradition continued, with proceeds from the evening supporting both the carnival and the Fire Fighters Charity, which provides lifelong care and support to fire crews across the UK.

Visitors were able to explore two Warminster fire engines and an aerial ladder platform from Swindon. Children had the chance to squirt water from the hoses, have photos taken with the vehicles, and speak with firefighters and a team from Wiltshire Police.
They could also watch the crew in action during live rescue demonstrations, assisted by firefighters from Bradford on Avon. These included a rescue from height, freeing a casualty from a crashed car, tackling a hot oil fire, and rescuing someone from a simulated house fire. All the ‘casualties’ were dressed as superheroes.

“This event has been a part of Carnival week for as long as we can remember, and it’s our chance to show the community what we do,” said Watch Manager John Burns. “So many parents who brought their children along this year attended with their families when they were younger. It’s a real tradition, and we are grateful for the support we get from the town.”

“While it isn’t a specific fund-raising event, any money made through the Fire Service Store goes to the Fire Fighters Charity. Our thanks go to The Old Fire Station and Prince Leopold pub in Upton Lovell for providing refreshments. The proceeds from these will be split between the carnival and the charity.”
Nicky Young, Regional Fundraiser at Fire Fighters Charity, added, “We are so grateful to the whole team at Warminster Fire Station for putting on a fantastic event for their local community and raising money for the charity. This will hugely help us support our fire family, both locally and across the UK, with their wellbeing needs.”
