The Prestbury Social Club will celebrate its 60th anniversary later this month with a special reunion evening, bringing together past members to relive fond memories of the once-thriving community hub.
The event has been organised by Dot Ovens, who served on the club’s original committee when it was established in 1965.
The anniversary event will be held at the Prestbury Sports Bar on Saturday 18th October, starting at 8pm. Former members and their families will be attending from across the area, with many taking the opportunity to catch up with faces from decades past.

A blast from the past
Established in 1965, the Prestbury Social Club originally served employees of the Clarke’s factory in the town, first operating from a building on Prestbury Drive.
“That’s how we chose the club name, Clarke’s wouldn’t allow us to use their name, as the family were Quakers and didn’t approve of alcoholic drinks,” said Dot. “When the factory moved to Fairfield Road, the club followed, settling into the premises now occupied by the Prestbury Sports Bar – a fitting location for the upcoming reunion.
“The club ultimately closed its doors in 2006, shortly after the Clarke’s factory operation ceased on Fairfield Road, vacating for a retail park.
“I’m really looking forward to meeting all my friends again; it will be like old times, especially as we have The Full Motley playing – one of my favourite local bands.”
Expecting familiar faces
The reunion is expected to draw many familiar faces from the club’s past, including members of well-known local families.
“What a night to see them all again in one room!” Dot added. “The anniversary celebration marks a wonderful return to the club’s former home and a chance to honour its legacy and the strong community bonds it forged over six decades.”
To ensure former members are well looked after, Dot has also arranged VIP tables with a dedicated buffet. Dot said. “I’m so excited, I can’t wait!”
