Choirs from Warminster came together to sing in aid of world peace at a global Sing for Unity event last month.
The event took place on the United Nations International Day of Peace, Sunday 21st September, and aimed to have people from across the world singing at the same time to promote unity, community and peace.
Warminster Community Choir led the local effort and invited other choirs to join them. Six local groups took part at the Minster Church, including U3A Singing for Wellbeing, Goldies, The Avenue Primary School choir, Cantiamo, and some members of The Good Afternoon Choir.
“The church was packed with singers and audience,” said Katy Horner, leader of the Warminster Community Choir.
“Each choir performed a few songs, and we ended the event with everyone joining in for a big singalong. We certainly raised the roof!”
The local event was part of a worldwide initiative that saw more than 10,000 people in 176 cities across 20 countries, including Austria, Canada, and the USA, join together to sing for unity.
“We even managed to raise some money for charity, although we have yet to decide which one,” added Katy.
