Plans for parking restrictions in Weymouth Street, aimed at improving safety for road users and visitors to the Lake Pleasure Grounds, are moving forward.
Warminster Town Council endorsed the need for double yellow lines on one side of Weymouth Street following discussions at the Highways Advisory Committee on Monday 1st September.
The town council previously identified the problem to Wiltshire Council after members of the public and councillors raised concerns surrounding access for emergency services during busy times in the park and town centre, as well as traffic congestion.
“Due to the amount of parking on either side of the road, Weymouth Street has become difficult to get through narrowing almost to a single lane,” said Councillor Stacie Allensby.
“It is the main access for lorries heading to Morrisons thus making it dangerous for other road users as the larger vehicles struggle to get up and down Weymouth Street.”
Following discussions with traffic engineers, the proposal will be consulted via a Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) which will advertise the proposed change and how people can respond.
It is hoped that the parking restrictions will improve access to and from the town centre via Weymouth Street as well as making the roads easier and safer for residents and visitors.
