A comedy night, pop tribute show and immersive historical mystery are coming up at Warminster’s Athenaeum this month.
The Warminster Comedy Club returns on Sunday 16th August at 7.30pm, with comedians Roger Monkhouse and Markus Birdman appearing alongside host Justin Panks.
Headliner Roger Monkhouse has more than 30 years’ experience as a stand-up comedian, with television and radio credits including BBC One’s The Big Stage, BBC Radio 4 and The Comedy Store.
Markus Birdman, a Britain’s Got Talent finalist, has appeared on Comedy Central Live, The John Bishop Show and BBC Radio 4 programmes.
“Warminster Comedy Club returns with a blockbuster line-up,” says the Athenaeum. “Roger’s razor-sharp improvisation and brilliantly crafted stand-up have made him one of the UK’s most admired headline comedians. Markus combines intelligent storytelling with superb writing and an effortlessly likeable style, and has become one of the UK’s finest live performers.
“Hosting the evening is Justin Panks, bringing his trademark quick wit, relaxed charm and infectious energy to guide audiences through another superb night of live comedy. Expect a relaxed atmosphere, big laughs, and a brilliant night of live stand-up.”
Tickets are £20 and the event is for over-18s.
On Friday 21st August, Swift & Friends will bring tribute performances celebrating Taylor Swift, Sabrina Carpenter and Chappell Roan to the Athenaeum.
The show features professional touring dancers, a live band, costumes and production inspired by the artists’ tours, alongside interactive elements including sing-alongs and friendship bracelet trading.
The performance consists of two 60-minute shows with a 20-minute interval. Doors open at 6.30pm and tickets cost £22.50.
On Sunday 30th August, the Athenaeum will host an immersive historical mystery event alongside Warminster’s late Summer Street Market.
The event, created by award-nominated touring theatre company Live History, will invite visitors to explore the Athenaeum’s Victorian history while solving puzzles, finding clues and questioning historical characters.
“Discover the fascinating history of this Warminster landmark in a completely unique way!” say the organisers.
Visitors can take part at their own pace, with the organisers expecting the activities to take around an hour to complete. The mystery can be completed using paper or QR codes.
Sessions begin every 15 minutes between 10.30am and 3.30pm. Refreshments will also be available in the function room after participants complete the mystery.
