Warminster Town reach Wiltshire FA Senior Cup final after semi-final win

Warminster Town are through to the final of the Wiltshire FA Senior Cup after a 1-0 win over Pewsey Vale in the semi-final last night. 

A goal from Tyson Pollard just before half-time clinched a place in the final where they will play either Devizes Town or Malmesbury Victoria who face each other in the other semi-final next Tuesday.

Quiz night raises funds for cancer services

  • Prostate support event to provide advice and community support A free prostate cancer support event will take place later this month, to bring clinical advice and community support to those who need it. The event will take place on Saturday 28th February from 11am to 1pm at Thomas Arnold Hall in Warminster School. Attendees will hear from a range of experts, including Sarah Gray from the national charity Tackle Prostate Cancer. Sarah will speak on the importance of local peer support networks such as Open Door, Warminster, as well as Tackle Prostate Cancer’s national campaign work. A clinical perspective will be provided by David White and Emma Huckle from the NHS, who will outline the specific medical support services available locally. Marion Barton, Chair of Open Door Warminster, who has organised the event, will discuss the benefits of joining a local group.   • Volunteers recognised for making a difference with Warminster Open Doors Three dedicated volunteers from Warminster Open Doors have been recognised for their outstanding contributions to the community through the national ‘Room to Reward’ scheme. ‘Room to Reward’ is a unique national initiative that thanks volunteers – the “Hidden Heroes” – who give their time to help others. Partner hotels and holiday parks donate unsold rooms, which are then offered to community volunteers through nominated local charities. Each year, Warminster Open Doors receives three of these special “thank you” breaks, offered through a random draw among its almost 30-strong volunteer team and this year’s recipients are Graham Southey, Vicki McGavin and Rachel Evans. Warminster Open Doors runs Chat Cafés as well as cancer, prostate cancer and bereavement support groups where people can meet, talk and find understanding over a friendly cup of coffee.   • Local charity launches coach trip programme Imperial Charity has released its programme of six coach trips throughout 2026 for local senior citizens and people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). Destinations this year are Gloucester Quays on Wednesday 15th April, Poole on Wednesday 13th May, Swanage on Wednesday 17th June, Weymouth on Wednesday 15th July, Sidmouth on Wednesday 19th August and Windsor on Wednesday 16th September. The trips are open to local senior citizens as well as people with SEND, with coaches departing from Westbury and Warminster. People with SEND are entitled to a free ticket for themselves and a carer. Steve Pope, business and charity manager said, “We are delighted to be able to confirm our schedule for 2026. “Our trips are very popular and sell out quickly and, despite ever increasing costs, we are freezing the donation we ask for each ticket at £15, which is amazing value for a day out."   • final tonight Warminster Town face Pewsey Vale tonight, Tuesday 17th February, in the semi-final of the Wiltshire FA County Cup (7.45pm kick-off) at Weymouth Road. Town booked their semi-final place with a 3-1 away win at Wootton Bassett in December. They are looking to win the trophy for the first time since 1910-11 and reach the final for the first time since 2008-09. “This is a huge occasion for the club and for everyone who’s supported the team on this cup journey,” said Club Chairman James Stone. “The lads have shown great commitment to reach this stage, and we’d love to see a big home crowd under the floodlights to spur them on. “The stakes could hardly be higher - victory would see us progress to a County Cup Final and move within touching distance of silverware, a deserved reward for the commitment and momentum built during an impressive County Cup run."   • Warminster aid volunteer planning next trip to help Ukrainian children Warminster’s long-time aid organiser Tommy Sprangle is planning his next trip to Poland next month, continuing his work supporting Ukrainian refugees. The mission will once again involve delivering donated supplies and gifts to a hostel in Bydgoszcz, northern Poland, where families forced from their homes by the war have found temporary shelter. This will be Tommy’s 41st trip since the conflict began and he’s now busy raising funds and collecting donations. Tommy, who in November completed a Christmas trip to Bydgoszcz, said the visit had gone “really well” and brought plenty of festive cheer to children and mothers. “I’ve spoken to the hostel recently and our Christmas gifts were a real Christmas treat for the kids,” he said. “That’s what makes it worthwhile. All the children got a Christmas present and some chocolates and that helped bring just a little bit of joy to their lives.” Read more on our website. The link is in our bio.
  • Great Bustard nests found in Cranborne Chase for first time By Local Democracy Reporter Peter Davison Great Bustard nests have been found for the first time in a vast protected natural landscape between Warminster and Salisbury. The bustard – the world’s heaviest flying bird – has been Wiltshire’s county emblem since Wiltshire Council was established in 2009. Having been hunted to extirpation in the 19th century – the last bird was shot in 1832 – the species was secretly reintroduced to the county in 1998 using chicks from Russia. Cranborne Chase Landscape Trust has confirmed that bustard chicks had been found in the 380 square mile Cranborne Chase National Landscape last May. Read more on our website. The link is in our bio.   • A Chance to Sparkle at A.C.T.S. Theatre Arts School Warminster’s own A.C.T.S. Theatre Arts School has started the new year with renewed energy, welcoming new students and continuing its mission to give people of all ages “A Chance to Sparkle”. Established in September 2011, the school has built a strong reputation for high-quality performing arts training for young people aged six to 17. Sessions are held on Saturday mornings at Warminster Prep School, offering weekly tuition in drama, dance and singing, as well as regular workshops exploring all aspects of theatre. “After last term’s visit to Oz (striking while the iron was hot with ‘Wicked’) we have kicked off again for the new year and are welcoming new students,” said founder and director Chris Turner.
