A local boxing club has completed its first weekend of competitive boxing, just months after opening.
Boxers from War Boxing Academy took part in the club’s first competitive weekend last month, with Aaron Lane, Kiefer Darker and Ben Mitchell competing in bouts at the Army Boxing Team Centre in Aldershot and Frome Football Club.
“Aaron competed twice, first facing the Army Heavyweight Champion where he followed his game plan well and delivered a strong performance over three rounds,” said head coach Chris. “He returned to the ring again against a heavyweight from the Home Counties. Despite his opponent missing weight the bout went ahead and Aaron dominated, forcing a first-round stoppage by the ringside doctor.
“Kiefer also returned to competition after an 18-month absence following the significant loss of his mum.
“Determined to represent the club he helped build, he delivered a committed and courageous performance in a tough contest, gaining valuable experience on his return.
“The weekend concluded with Ben making his competitive debut at 24 years old, a challenging step in any contact sport. He showed determination across three hard fought rounds, taking the bout to the judges and earning praise for his commitment.”
War Boxing Academy first opened its doors in May 2025 in Silver Street in Warminster. Since then, the club has grown from a small local gym into a thriving community space.
“War Boxing Academy was created with a clear purpose, to use boxing as a tool for personal development, discipline and confidence,” said Chris.
Chris has boxed throughout his life and credits the sport with shaping his own character and values.
“That experience now underpins the club’s ethos, providing local youth with the same positive pathways boxing once gave me,” he said.
The club are hoping to host their first home show in Warminster soon.
