Local MP Andrew Murrison visited Year 6 pupils at a local primary school to discuss climate change and the environment.
Badgers Class at Minster CofE Primary School have been learning about climate change and were able to discuss the issue with their local MP during his visit.
Pupils shared their writing, discussed the environmental issues they had researched, and spoke passionately about the changes they hope to see in the future.
Logan, a pupil in the class, said, “I shared with Dr Murrison our learning about melting ice caps and how this causes more than just flooding.”
The class also prepared questions for the MP, ranging from local environmental initiatives to national climate policies and what young people can do to make a difference.
Francesca, another pupil in the class, said, “The visit inspired me to write to the Prime Minister about climate change.”
Deputy Headteacher Kelly Sattin said, “The discussion was lively, meaningful, and empowering for our learners – many of whom expressed how valuable it felt to have their voices heard by someone in a position to influence real change.
“A number of children have since wanted to research politics and opportunities for when they are older.
“We are incredibly proud of the pupils’ hard work, curiosity, and confidence, and we were grateful to Dr Murrison for taking the time to engage so fully with their ideas.”
