A NEW police cadet unit has opened in Warminster, with 14 young people attending the induction session.
The new group was supported by cadets from the Trowbridge and Chippenham units, as well as volunteer leaders.
Cadets took part in team-building activities such as constructing spaghetti and marshmallow towers and engineering cup pyramids using only string and rubber bands.
“The Youth and Early Intervention Team have worked really hard to get a fourth cadet unit open in the county,” said Cadet Unit Leader PCSO Melissa Culliford.
“This marks the beginning of an exciting journey for the young people who have joined us, helping us bridge the gap between young people and the police. They will help represent their community by being at the heart of it.”
Cadets volunteer at community events and initiatives alongside officers, PCSOs, volunteers and members of the Special Constabulary. They are trained in a variety of skills, including learning how to use radios, first aid, using personal protective equipment, health and safety and the foundations of law.
Cadet co-ordinator Alison Creswell said, “We’re excited to open the new Warminster unit and can’t wait to introduce our new cadets to their local neighbourhood policing team.
“We’re looking forward to seeing them support community events and build strong connections across the local area.”
Warminster Cadets meet every Tuesday evening during term time at Kingdown School.
