A group campaigning for a green space at a High Street site in Warminster has started fundraising and is encouraging the community to get involved.
The Chapel Green Association hopes to raise funds to purchase land next to St Lawrence Chapel to create a green space.
Plans to build on the site were submitted to Wiltshire Council in 2024 but, following demolition of the previous building, some residents called for it to be retained as an open green space to “enhance” the view of the adjacent chapel.
The group understands the owner may be open to selling the site and is aiming to raise enough money to secure it.
Funds will be raised through member donations, alongside community fundraising events, with supporters encouraged to organise their own activities.
“Come up with your own idea, however whacky, and have fun doing it,” said Maggy Daniell, who is leading the campaign.
Suggested fundraising ideas include sponsored walks, craft sales and bake sales.
Susan Howe became the first community fundraiser after raising £87 by selling plants.
She said, “I really enjoy growing the plants and selling them. I love the propagation part of things and I find it more rewarding doing the plants for a cause I support.”
