Three generations unite for charity darts challenge

A nine-hour darts marathon organised by a Warminster man in honour of his dad has raised more than £1,350 for the Alzheimer’s Society.

Shane Rideout organised the challenge after his dad was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease two years ago. The challenge brought together friends, family and three generations of darts players at Warminster Town Football Club on Sunday 6th September.

Shane’s darts team were joined by his son Ralph’s team, Frome JDC Junior Darts, to take on the challenge, with Shane’s dad, John, also taking part in the day.

“The biggest highlight of the day was seeing friends and family of all ages come together and pull together to achieve the target,” said Shane. “It was amazing to see so many people getting involved, supporting the challenge and creating such a positive atmosphere throughout the day.

“Although we successfully reached our target of 100,225 points by 3pm, we certainly didn’t call it a day there! With everyone still enjoying themselves and the atmosphere being so brilliant, we decided to keep the darts going. We continued playing right through until 6.30pm, making an already memorable day even longer and more enjoyable.”

Shane’s challenge was supported by local businesses, which donated raffle prizes, while The Cookhouse donated lunch for the team. Donations from friends, family and members of the public helped raise more than £1,350 for the charity.

“Raising money for the Alzheimer’s Society means a great deal to our family,” said Shane. “We are still learning about the charity and about the many challenges that Alzheimer’s can bring, and it has given us a much greater appreciation of the support available to people living with the illness and to the families around them.

“We hope the money raised will help people like my dad to have the quality of life they deserve, while also supporting the families who are living alongside them. Ultimately, we hope it can help families make the most of their time together and create happy memories that can be treasured.

“£1,350 is an amazing amount, and we couldn’t have done it without everyone’s generosity and support.

“A huge thank you also goes to Warminster Town Football Club for allowing us to hold the event at their venue.”
