More than 50 singers from across the Warminster area joined choirs around the world to sing for peace as part of an international event.
The singers took part in Sing for Unity at The Minster Church of St Denys on Sunday, 20th September, joining a global movement which sees people sing for peace at 2pm local time on the UN International Day of Peace.
Warminster Community Choir was joined by members of Rock Choir and Goldies Sing and Smile sessions, as well as the Occasional Singers from Codford.
The group took part in a live link with a choir in Denmark before singing together in Warminster.
Choir leader Katy Horner said, “It was a fantastic event and we all really enjoyed it. We started off with a live link up with the female singers choir in Denmark. We listened to them sing for a bit and inevitably everybody at our end started joining in and we had the singing going across the water. We had a conversation with the lady that started the whole movement, we talked about why it is important to do, why we were doing it and spoke about promoting world peace through singing.
“Countries as far as Japan take part. Then Rock Choir, led by Emma Webb did a session for 20 minutes or so and then the community choir, the Occasional Singers in Codford and then the Goldies. We all sang some songs together at the end. All in all it was very successful.”
Following the event, the singers enjoyed tea and cake while raising funds for Breast Cancer Now, a breast cancer support and research charity.
