A local church began its festive preparations by holding a Christmas bazaar to raise funds for the renovation of the church hall.
Parishioners at St George’s Catholic Church worked together to set up and run the stalls and decorate the Christmas tree. They also transformed the cleaner’s cupboard into Father Christmas’ grotto.
“The hall was packed not only with parishioners but also with locals, some visiting St George’s for the first time,” said parishioner Charles Sultana De Maria.
“Father Christmas was a great attraction, with 27 children visiting the grotto. While waiting for their turn to meet Father Christmas, the children were introduced to the real story of the birth of Jesus, with activities at each of the five prayer stations in the church.
“Lots of thanks go to Father Christmas and his elf assistant, Jingles!”
There was a variety of stalls at the event, including a traditional bottle stall, chocolate tombola, gifts tombola, and a coffee shop selling refreshments and sweet treats.
The Christmas bazaar ended with two grand raffles, one featuring two deluxe hampers and the other with cash prizes, fine wine, additional hampers, vouchers and teddies donated by parishioners and local shops and services.
The event was organised by Deacon Terry, his wife Marion, and many volunteers.
