A Warminster woman has raised hundreds for charity in tribute to her late father.
Heather Morgan, a retired minister worshipping at United Church, lost her father to Motor Neurone Disease (MND) when he was just 52.
At present there is no cure for MND, which affects more than 5,000 adults in the UK at any one time.
Heather recently celebrated a ‘big birthday’ and, to mark the occasion, decided to raise money for the Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Association with a coffee morning at the United Church in George Street on Saturday 12th April.
The fundraising event drew quite a crowd, all wishing to support the good cause.
Heather said, “I treated a few of my friends to lunch, and the Westbury and Warminster choir to tea and cake. In return, I asked for their support for the coffee morning. Many of them gave me a donation before the event, but with the coffee morning takings added to these, I was able to send the sum of £420 to the charity.”
As well as the great amount raised for the MND Association, Heather also hopes she has helped raise awareness of the disease.
“I had recently realised how life changing MND had been for my family,” Heather said.
“When I was in my late teens, my parents, younger brother and myself, were living in a semi-detached house in a village but had to relocate to a bungalow in Swindon that could accommodate my father’s wheelchair.”
Heather would like to express her grateful thanks to Sarah Weston, Hilda Hanks and Margaret Stanley for all their help running the coffee morning, and also to those who baked cakes and attended the event.
