Warminster Community Speed Watch is looking to recruit new volunteers to monitor speeding in the community.
As part of the programme, trained volunteers verify and record the registration number of vehicles recorded as breaking the speed limit. All information recorded is passed to the police for further action.
There are currently 14 residents ready to start training, but town councillor James Kirkwood is encouraging more residents to get involved.
“The people who volunteer for speed watch groups fulfil an important role in their communities by discouraging speeding and preventing accidents,” Cllr Kirkwood said. “Residents can volunteer as many or as few hours as they like at times that can be arranged.”
Volunteers work closely with the police, supported by an assigned Road Safety Officer and Community Speed Enforcement Officer.
Community Speed Watch only takes place where there is an identified speeding issue which has been confirmed by a traffic survey in a 20mph, 30mph or 40mph speed limits.
All volunteers are trained by Wiltshire Police to monitor traffic speed and must comply with a code of practice.
