Wiltshire Police have seized an illegal e-bike and arrested a teenager for traffic offences following targeted police work in Warminster.
Officers from Trowbridge Team 3 attempted to stop three youths riding illegal e-bikes in the Bradley Road area of Warminster on Friday 15th May. Police said the riders ignored directions and made off from the scene.
During the attempted stop, officers were able to identify one of the individuals involved, a 16-year-old boy.
The following day, the teenager was arrested on suspicion of four traffic offences, including driving without insurance. A search was authorised during which officers located and seized an illegal e-bike linked to the incident the previous evening.
PC Rideout from the Warminster Neighbourhood Policing Team said, “This is great work by officers from Response Team 3.
“The seizure of a known e-bike, used carelessly for several weeks and which we know has been causing alarm and distress to the public, is a positive step. We are aware of further bikes and will be targeting them soon.”
If you have concerns about illegal e-bikes or e-scooters in your community, report them online, via 101 or 999 in an emergency.
