Serving soldiers, their families, and former members of the 2nd Battalion The Royal Yorkshire Regiment came together for a day of entertainment and friendly competition at the battalion’s Summer Fun Day.
The event, held on Wednesday 30th July at Battlesbury Barracks, featured a packed programme of activities. A highlight of the day was the arrival of an Apache helicopter, which landed on camp and opened its doors for tours, giving both adults and children a rare opportunity to see inside the aircraft.
Other attractions included a bouncy castle assault course, a ‘Hang Tough’ challenge, a tug of war, and a soapbox derby with teams from each company competing.
Visitors also enjoyed food prepared and cooked by members of the regiment from a range of nationalities, with dishes from Fiji, Sri Lanka, Nepal, and Gambia on offer.
The day was open to serving and former members of the regiment, with many families and children enjoying the chance to spend time together on camp.
Lieutenant Colonel John Black, commanding officer of the 2nd Battalion The Royal Yorkshire Regiment, said, “We like to put on a real show for our service personnel and their families, a community event for all to enjoy.”
