A golf club captain who received care at Warminster Community Hospital after a serious accident has helped fund new equipment for the ward.
West Wilts Golf Club men’s captain Colin Fourmy chose to support the Longleat Ward at Warminster Community Hospital after spending 11 days there during his recovery.
Alongside women’s captain Dympna Bell, the pair organised a series of fundraising events throughout their captaincies in 2025, raising a combined total of £4,800 to be shared equally between the ward and Julia’s House children’s hospice.
Colin chose to support the ward after receiving care there following a serious accident in June 2024.
“It was not only the care afforded to me but to all patients that I met that made me determined to give something back to the community as a whole,” said Colin.
The ward used the funds to purchase a rise and recline chair, a specialised seat designed for patient mobility, pressure relief and safe transfers.
“The use of a rise and recline chair was paramount in my rehabilitation whilst in hospital and the funds raised during my captaincy of West Wilts Golf Club in 2025 allowed a second chair to be purchased for the ward,” said Colin. “The addition of a much-needed rise and recline chair will benefit anyone unfortunate enough to be in hospital who is immobile.”
Ward manager Vickie Jamieson said, “It’s a real asset for some of our elderly patients who have had injuries and are less comfortable in many of our hard-backed chairs. This just allows people to be much more comfortable, especially if they’ve got to sit and wait between care visits, for example.”
Events organised by the captains included captain’s day fundraisers, bingo nights, quiz nights, night golf, a Greenkeepers Revenge competition and a bungee jump by bar team member Sam Rowles.
The money raised will also go towards helping Julia’s House continue to provide specialist care for critically ill children and their families across Wiltshire and Dorset.
Nicky Clack from the Julia’s House Wiltshire Fundraising Team described the amount raised by Colin and Dympna as “amazing.”
She said, “The money raised by West Wilts Golf Club could pay for a fun day at the hospice in Devizes for six children where they can use the fantastic sensory room and other specialist equipment while the rest of their families have a break.”
