A local writer has released a new novel featuring a mysterious alien presence and an action-filled plot.
Paul Pointer’s novel ‘Crystals’ follows three ordinary people on a journey across future Britain. They must complete their mission without using their bank accounts, phones or public transport. Meanwhile, a major corporation wants them dead.
Paul, who is a member of Warminster Writers’ Circle, said, “The book starts in a journal-style form and follows a geologist who goes to survey a planet he thinks we might colonise.
“He finds some weird crystals which don’t show up on any database. But later, we find out they can be used for telepathic communication. The big communication companies find out and want to put a stop to this, so they arrange an accident for the geologist.
“The book then moves on years later to the geologist’s son, who wants to find out what happened to his father.”
Crystals began life as a three-page short story that simply followed the geologist when he found the crystals. But when Paul’s wife read the story, she was desperate to find out what happened next. He then returned to his keyboard and tapped out the rest of the tale over the following two years.
Paul added, “The story grew and grew. I’m retired now, so was lucky to have the time to work on the book. I’ve always read books and devoured them as a child. I’m influenced by a lot of sci-fi and thriller writers, such as Dennis Wheatley.
“I also need to tip my hat to the Warminster Writers’ Circle for all their support, advice and encouragement. Without them, the book would have taken a lot longer – or perhaps not have happened at all.
“I’d encourage anyone who wants to write a book to take the plunge. My advice would be: take a deep breath, dive in with both feet and have a go.”
