Local pupils have helped secure funding for their schools by triumphing in a Christmas card colouring competition run by a local business.
Grace, a Year 5 pupil at Horningsham Primary School, won the top prize with her countryside entry in NFU Mutual Warminster’s Christmas card competition. Indi, a Year 3 pupil at the school, also won a prize for coming second.
As well as receiving their own awards, the pupils secured £400 of prize money for the school.
Rob Maddocks, an NFU Mutual Warminster agent, presented the prizes to the children in front of the school and parents at an assembly last month.
Rob said, “It has been an absolute pleasure to work with local primary schools for this fun Christmas competition. NFU Mutual Warminster is recognised for its local, community-led ethos. To run a colouring competition with local children therefore seemed a ‘must’.”
Headteacher at Horningsham Primary School, Odele Lapham, said, “We were delighted to be invited to join the colouring competition and were so pleased to see how the children got behind it with excellent artwork all round.
“What is lovely is that Grace and Indi not only received personal prizes, but they also won funds for the school, with first place taking £250 and second prize £150. This will give us an incredible £400 to use towards school funds, whether for playground equipment or books in the library. We’ve now just got to decide what to spend it on, and I’m sure the children will get involved with plenty of great ideas!”
Ollie Alcock, a Year 4 pupil at Warminster Prep School, took third place in the competition.
Mrs Woodyatt, Head of Prep Art at the school, said, “I was thrilled that the school was invited to participate, and it’s always so lovely to see the pupils taking art out of the classroom and using their own creativity. Ollie was quite obviously delighted with his prize and now has the important task of working closely with the pupil-led School Council to decide how the prize money will be spent so that it benefits all our pupils.”
