Mayor’s tea dance raises hundreds for local charities

A tea dance organised by Warminster’s mayor has raised over £800 for two local charities.

The sold-out event saw 80 people fill the Civic Centre. It was hosted by Mayor Andrew Cooper to raise money for his chosen charities for the year, Open Door Warminster and Wiltshire Mind.

Guests enjoyed an afternoon of dancing, socialising and refreshments, with live music provided by David Huxford.

“I think the level of support was just fantastic,” said Cllr Cooper. “The positivity and joy that was brought into the room by people that came was a highlight.”

“People had a fantastic time; there was lots of joy and fun and happiness in the room and people really, really enjoyed themselves.

“The thing most people said was ‘when are we going to do it again?’ It would be nice to do them regularly, lots of people have asked. It’s certainly something we can look at.

“It’s great we’re able to make a difference to my two charities and all have a fantastic time.”

Food and drinks were supplied by Taste Deli and a raffle was also held during the event.

The money raised from ticket sales and raffle sales will be combined with funds from other events throughout the year and split between the charities at the end of Cllr Cooper’s mayoral term in May.
