Memory support group to launch in Mere

A new community-led memory support group will launch in Mere later this year to support those living with memory loss or dementia.

The group will meet at Castle Lodge Care Home and provide a friendly, informal space for anyone affected by memory loss or dementia. A memory care community coordinator will be on hand to offer advice, answer questions and signpost people to local support services.

The launch of the new group comes after an overwhelming response from local people at a recent consultation event which explored the need for the service.

“The response to our consultation event was incredibly encouraging,” said Chris Guest, customer relations manager at Castle Lodge. “Dementia affects families and communities as well as individuals, and we hope this group will provide a place where people can connect, access support and know they’re not alone.”

The group will meet at 2pm in Castle Lodge Care Home’s entertainment suite on Thursday 8th October, Thursday 10th December, Thursday 11th February 2027, Thursday 8th April 2027 and Thursday 10th June 2027.

Supported by Castle Lodge and part-funded by Wiltshire Council, the group has been made possible through the support of a number of community partners, including Age UK Wiltshire, Wiltshire Community Foundation, Wiltshire Creative, Wiltshire Music Centre, Wiltshire & Swindon History Centre and Community First.
