A well-known Warminster resident, who has lived in the town for 50 years, is retiring from G&B Griffin Jewellers on Christmas Eve.
Sue Castleton has worked in the jewellers, at Three Horseshoes Walk , for the last seven years.
“Griffins has always been a huge part of Warminster’s high street, and in my opinion is the heart of our wonderful town,” said Sue, who started working at the shop to help a friend.
“I joined Rachel and her team in December 2018, when Sue, Rachel’s lovely mum, became ill, and Rachel was struggling to find help with the shop.
“It has been my upmost privilege to work with her, and all the other members of the Griffin team. I will miss them all so very much.”
Sue, 78, initially retired 16 years ago, having worked in the TSB and Lloyds in the town, but came out of retirement when she joined Griffins.
She is a familiar face for many within the community and recognises many of her current customers from her time at the bank.
“It has been great to see them and catch up with them again,” she added.
“People used to come into banks just to have a talk to someone because they were lonely and on their own, or they didn’t have any family. Especially when I was at TSB, it was a tiny little branch. They used to come in every week, draw their money out, and then we used to chat.
“I had a customer that used to come in every Christmas and bring me a jar of pickles that he’d pickled himself!”
Rachel, who runs G&B Griffin Jewellers, said, “People are so fond of Sue, and because she’s never looked any different, people recognise her.
“She talks to people and listens to people. That’s her quality; she could be doing anything, and she will still make time for people.”
Sue added, “I leave with a deep sadness, but have the most amazing memories, which I will treasure.
“Jewellery is like a perfect spice; it always compliments what’s already there and also has the power to make you feel unique.”
