An event celebrating Nepali culture has raised around £1,000 for the Gurkha Welfare Trust.
Around 150 people came together for the event at Warminster Civic Centre last month, which was filled with traditional Nepali food, cultural performances, educational talks and music.
“The event turned out to be a wonderful success,” said Sisekna Limbu, who organised the day. “What we initially expected to be a small gathering of around 20 to 50 people grew into an event attended by approximately 150 members of the Warminster community.
“The aim of the event was threefold. Firstly, to celebrate and share the beauty of Nepali culture and cuisine with the wider Warminster community. Secondly, to raise funds in support of the Gurkha Welfare Trust, helping Gurkha veterans and their families. Most importantly, the event was created to inspire young people to believe in themselves, take initiative and turn their ideas into reality!”
The money raised will go towards helping the charity provide financial, medical and development aid to Gurkha veterans and their families.
“For me personally, organising this event was very meaningful as my late grandfather served as a Gurkha soldier,” said Sisekna. “Seeing the community come together in this way felt like a very special moment and a way of honouring his legacy.”
Sisekna is hoping to collaborate with different communities and cultures to put on similar events in the future.
“We are very hopeful and excited to organise more fundraising events and community market stalls in the future, continuing to showcase the beauty of Nepali culture through food, music and cultural experiences,” Sisekna added. “Our vision is to keep building opportunities for people to come together, learn from one another and celebrate diversity within the community.”
