Wildflowers have been planted around the town’s lake to enhance biodiversity and improve lake health.
Councillors have approved the installation of two-metre-wide wildflower strips at the Warminster Lake Pleasure Grounds after a meeting of the Parks and Estate Committee.
“It’s a very good idea because it not only promotes wildlife, but biodiversity – which we need,” said Cllr Stephen Kirkwood.
“I think it will encourage more people to be conscious of the environment within the park and it is a relatively easy idea to implement.”
A Warminster Town Council spokesperson said grass cutting along the lake edge can affect water quality.
“Grass cutting along the lake perimeter can result in clippings entering the water, which can negatively impact water quality and disturb wildlife.
“Introducing wildflower strips provides a low-maintenance, sustainable solution that benefits both the environment and the community.”
