Residents will have the chance to visit Imber Village at its upcoming open days.
Imber, the ‘lost village,’ will be open from Monday 29th December to Thursday 1st January.
Imber is an uninhabited village within the British Army’s training grounds on Salisbury Plain. The civilian population was given 47 days’ notice to leave their homes in 1943 to provide an exercise area for American troops during World War II. Villagers were not allowed to return after the war, and the village remains under the control of the Ministry of Defence.
Imber is only open to visitors on a few days each year. The last occasion was Imberbus Day in August, when hundreds of visitors boarded vintage buses in Warminster to reach the village.
Visitors are encouraged to tour the village, but all buildings, except for St Giles Church, are off-limits to the public.
A spokesperson said, “St Giles Church will be open to visitors between 11am and 4pm. Light refreshments will be available.”
The church can only accept cash payments.
