Local MP Andrew Murrison has visited the new Prostate Cancer Support Group run by Open Door in Warminster to see the group in action.
Guests welcomed the chance to talk to the politician about prostate cancer and the need for greater testing and support.
Tackle Prostate Cancer UK says that prostate cancer is a difficult disease, and the choices facing a man who is diagnosed are complex.
A spokesperson for the group said, “The main aims of the support group are to raise awareness of the symptoms and the tests available, and to encourage men to talk with others about their concerns.
“Some conversations can cause embarrassment, yet often, these are the most important ones to have. The support group advocates normalising these types of conversations and tackling taboos to ensure no-one feels like they’re on their prostate cancer journey alone.
“The group’s message to anyone affected by or concerned about prostate cancer is simple: ‘Don’t turn your back on it’.
“Anyone interested can just drop in every second and fourth Monday of the month, 7pm at the Athenaeum Centre. Friends and family are also welcome.”
