Second World Championships call-up for local agility pair

A local woman and her dog have been selected to represent Great Britain at the World Agility Championships for the second year in a row. 

Claire Barton, and her cocker spaniel, Woody, will compete with Team GB at the championships in Spain this April. Claire, who lives in Westbury, has worked as a mobile hairdresser in Warminster for many years.

The pair successfully qualified following a series of competitions and a try-out day, where were tested on different skills, as well as their speed and consistency.

The pair also represented Great Britain at last year’s championships in Switzerland.

“It’s definitely a very proud moment when you have been picked to compete internationally,” said Claire, who described it as an “incredible opportunity.”

“I think I will be more relaxed this year as you know how it works, but I’m sure the nerves will kick in, which is only natural.”

Claire will train regularly with Woody, as well as a few times with the whole team, before they head to Spain in April.

“I train on a regular basis with a trainer, and I do extra training days at different venues, plus I rent a field to practice which helps,” Claire said. “Woody also has regular check-ups with a canine massager to help with any tightness, keeping him in great shape, this comes with lots of exercises.”
