Warminster Town’s Wiltshire FA Senior Cup victory has been overturned following an investigation into player eligibility.
Wiltshire FA confirmed on Friday 24th April that the result of the final between Warminster Town FC and Devizes Town FC has been reversed after a breach of competition rules.
In a statement, the FA said an investigation was carried out after the final on 14th April regarding the eligibility of Warminster player Braden Humphreys, who played and scored in the match.
The FA said, “The investigation found that Warminster Town breached Rule 4(c), which states: ‘No player who has played in the Premier Shield may play in the Senior Cup or Junior Cup in the same season.’”
Following discussions between the Football Services Team and the CEO, the FA confirmed that the result of the final – a 2–1 win for Warminster – will be expunged and the Wiltshire FA Senior Cup awarded to Devizes Town.
The FA added, “We will be making no further comment at this time.”
Warminster had celebrated the win as a historic triumph, having last lifted the trophy in the 1910–11 season.
