Warminster has a new mayoral team for the year ahead, with Cllr Andrew Cooper appointed as town mayor and Cllr Jack Jones named as his deputy.
Speaking at the annual town council meeting on Monday 12th May, both councillors said it was an “honour” to take on the roles and pledged to serve the Warminster community with pride and commitment.
The pair will chair town council meetings, attend civic events, and support local charities throughout their term.
Cllr Cooper said, “I thank my fellow councillors for their nomination and support. I wish to thank the former Mayor, Cllr Stacie Allensby, for her support and guidance whilst I was deputy town mayor.
“I will do my best for and by the people of Warminster. I want to put even more back into the fantastic Warminster community.
“I’m very happy to continue to contribute to all the good Warminster Town Council is doing.”
Cllr Cooper, 63, is married and has lived in Warminster for 11 years since retiring from the military and has previously been a parish priest. His other interests include restoring vintage engines.
He believes local politics should focus on serving the community and always being accountable. Cllr Cooper has a particular interest in traffic, safety and financial matters and he previously chaired the Town Council’s Finance and Audit Committee.
The mayor’s charities for 2025 – 2026 will be Mind and Open Door Warminster; two charities that Cllr Cooper currently works closely with.
Cllr Cooper added, “There’s so much stigma about mental health, it’s an injury like any other kind of injury, and we should be more mindful of that. Locally, Open Door Warminster has a fantastic outreach in the community, supporting so many different groups.”
Cllr Jack Jones, deputy mayor, is passionate about anything sport, environmental or youth related.
He is an active volunteer for many local community groups including the Warminster Action Group and the Athenaeum. He believes in a community-first approach and the importance of continuing to improve Warminster for its residents.
Cllr Jones said, “It’s an honour to step into the role of deputy mayor and to be able to continue to serve the people of Warminster.
“I’m committed to supporting our community, championing local voices, and working together to create a town that is inclusive, vibrant, and forward-thinking.”
