Three boxers from the War Boxing Academy stepped through the ropes on Saturday 23rd May to represent Warminster, with the standout performance, a Western Counties under 60kg title win for Kiefer Darker, reports the club.
First up was Lexi Lee, who faced a stern test against a highly skilled opponent from Somerset. In what proved to be a fiercely competitive contest, Lexi showed tremendous resilience and composure under pressure. Weathering early storms, she grew into the bout and turned the tide with two standing counts, ultimately securing a well-earned unanimous decision victory. It was a performance that highlighted both her toughness and growing ring intelligence.
Next into the ring was Eric Garrett, who took on a hometown boxer in what was always going to be a challenging environment. Unfortunately, Eric was unable to find his rhythm early on, as his opponent came out aggressively and applied relentless pressure. The bout was stopped in the first round but despite the result, it marks an important learning experience for the young boxer as he continues his development in the sport.
The headline moment of the evening belonged to Kiefer who stepped into the ring with significant stakes on the line. Not only was he contesting the Western Counties under 60kg title but also representing War Boxing Academy in the 3 vs 3 Cup against Sydenham ABC. Against a hometown favourite and with the weight of expectation firmly on his shoulders, Kiefer delivered a performance of maturity, control and determination.
Over three intensely fought rounds, he dictated the pace, controlled the distance and answered everything his opponent threw at him. It was a high-level contest, with both boxers displaying skill and heart but Kiefer’s composure and tactical execution proved decisive. At the final bell he was deservedly awarded the victory and crowned Western Counties champion.
The achievement carries even greater significance given the personal challenges Kiefer has faced. After the loss of his mother just 10 months ago, his return to the gym and dedication to his craft have been nothing short of remarkable. This title win stands as a testament not only to his ability but to his strength of character.
It was a weekend that encapsulated everything boxing represents – resilience, growth, discipline and triumph with War Boxing Academy once again doing Warminster proud.
