Disruption on Weymouth Road caused by the sewer improvement scheme is now expected to continue until mid-August, Wessex Water has confirmed.
Since last August, work has been underway on a £2 million sewer improvement project which has impacted drivers – with a northbound single lane closure – and pedestrians, whose pavement access has been limited.
Earlier this year, following a meeting with Warminster Town Council, Wessex Water apologised for the disruption and said work would be complete by the end of July.
However, local people face a further wait for the roadworks to be removed, as the company now says it expects the work to be completed by mid-August.
A Wessex Water spokesperson said, “As we advised local customers last month, this essential £2 million investment to reduce storm overflow operation and improve protection of the environment in Warminster remains on schedule to be completed by mid-August.
“We will be writing to the local community again within the next few weeks to inform them about the end of the work and the arrangements to fully reopen Weymouth Street to through traffic in both directions.
“We’re grateful to local people and businesses for their patience and understanding while this challenging project has been carried out and apologise for any inconvenience caused.’’
