Young litter picker clears layby during summer holidays

A five-year-old boy from Warminster recently spent a morning of his summer holidays collecting bags of litter from a layby in Corsley. 

Codie Van Vliet has previously helped his grandad Quintyn Howard-Evans pick bits of litter and clear paths, but earlier this month decided to tackle a whole layby full of discarded rubbish.

Codie said it was “not good” that so much litter had been left in the area. He and his grandad were able to fill seven rubbish sacks with litter, including items such old shoes, bottles, cans, food and bits of carpet.

Quintyn said, “He was rightly pleased with his efforts, and we celebrated with a sausage and egg bap.

“Codie’s efforts are a great example, and the word should be spread to other willing youngsters, and indeed to the people who drop it all in the first place.”
