Warminster travelled to Almondsbury on Saturday looking get back to winning ways.
Manager Rob Nash was able to welcome back previously suspended pair Jordan Pinder and Owen Bartley to the squad; Corey Gardner and Seb Hounsell were also back after missing last week’s trip to Radstock. And new signing keeper Sam Jepson went straight in to replace the injured Jack Amor. Jordan went straight into the back four while the other three were all on the bench.
The game began quite evenly with neither side getting on top. The home side had the first chance, a shot blasted wide of the post. Town were slowly finding their way and were in front after 13 minutes; a long ball found Jack Newman who drove at the home defence and bent a fine curling shot past the keeper.
Town looked to be in control but unfortunately lost Henry Mcferran to injury. He was replaced by Seb Hounsell. Then the home side drew level; good play down the right saw a shot well saved by Jepson but the rebound was put away.
This didn’t deter Town who were back on the front foot. A good cross saw a Newman header just over and then Tyson Pollard saw a shot well saved. The home side were having to defend well to keep the scores level. HT 1-1.
The second half saw the Red and Blacks looking to get a second and they were creating chances. A through ball saw Jake Wright in on goal but was denied by the keeper.
Two Town corners almost resulted in goals; firstly Jake completely missed the ball when any contact would have seen a goal and Charlie Walton also headed over. Tyson also saw a shot agonisingly deflected past the post.
The visitors had to be on their guard as Almondsbury were also looking dangerous when they attacked; Jepson had to make a good save to deny the hosts the lead and a good piece of defending from Braden Humphreys was enough to put off the striker whose shot was week and straight at Jepson.
As the game entered the final minutes, a good strike from Seb was straight at the keeper and a shot from substitute Corey forced the keeper into a diving save and with nearly the last kick of the game the home side almost stole the points; a cross from the left just evaded the man at the far post. FT 1-1.
Probably a fair result but once again missed chances from Town saw them with one point and not all three.
