A new family group launched in Warminster in June is already making a real difference to local families, offering a warm welcome, a free lunch and a chance to connect.
Run by Home-Start South Wiltshire, the group meets at Warminster Football Club and is open to all families with children aged 0–5. Just two months after its launch, six local families from a variety of backgrounds are now attending regularly.
“We have been slowly building the group,” said Family Worker Alice Caudle. “We now have six families registered with us, all from different backgrounds and it’s been lovely getting to know them and seeing them get to know each other.
“We believe the group offers a chance to socialise in a welcoming space – both myself and the volunteers know how hard parenting can be and we offer a chance for families to feel supported.
“The group is free as is the light lunch we offer, because we are mindful of the costs of having a family; sharing food is also a great way to come together.
“The Warminster community has been great since we opened and we’ve had lots of support from the Army welfare team and local health visiting and family hub teams. The families who have attended have recommended us to friends and the football club is a fabulous venue which was recommended to us by local councillor, Jack Jones.”
Home-Start South Wiltshire also runs groups in Amesbury and Salisbury and offers home visits by trained volunteers to support families in need. The charity is currently recruiting new volunteers to join their team, with a training session on 3rd September.
