A new spring festival celebrating student talent both on and off the stage brought music, creativity and community spirit to Kingdown School recently.
The school campus was transformed for KingFest, which featured four stages, a design exhibition, market stalls, refreshments, creative activities and student enterprise stalls.
Students delivered a range of musical performances onstage, with many pupils also involved behind the scenes, taking on responsibility for sound and lighting, stage management, marshalling, design, catering and front-of-house support.
“I’m just really proud that our pre-Covid idea has finally sprung to life,” said Media and Events Technician Paul Barnes, who developed and coordinated the event. “I’m very glad that all the hard work from numerous staff behind the scenes paid off to give our young people a fantastic event that they can be proud of too.”
Another member of staff said, “As always there is a lot of talent at Kingdown, and this event provided the vehicle for them to show that off, not only for performers but also for the tech and backstage teams that supported. The event enabled, at a guess, 400 people to have a lovely evening.”
Following the success of the event, there are plans to build on KingFest in future years and cement it as a highlight of the school’s calendar.
