Work to repair a sinkhole that opened in Warminster is due to begin this week.
The sinkhole appeared at the junction of Pound Street and Pound Row on 14th June. At the time, Wiltshire Council said there was no immediate danger to motorists and did not consider it necessary to close the road. A resident marked the hole with a flag to stop motorists from driving over it.
Cllr Martin Smith, Wiltshire Council’s cabinet member for highways, said, “We are aware of a defect at the junction of Pound Street and Pound Row in Warminster.
“Following initial investigations, including checks with Wessex Water due to the presence of their infrastructure in the area, Wessex Water has advised that it’s not their asset.
“A work order has now been raised for our masonry team to carry out an excavation and undertake any necessary repairs.
“We will continue to monitor the situation and complete any remedial work as quickly as possible whilst minimising disruption.”
