Warminster has managed to ‘buck the trend’ when it comes to town centre trade.
Dwindling footfall has been a major issue for many British high streets, with shops, pubs, and restaurants closing in large numbers. However, in Warminster, the Town Council says business owners have remained “resilient.”
The Town Council attributes this success to collaboration with the Warminster Business Network (WBN), which has encouraged increased footfall and fostered a sense of pride in the town.
A Warminster Town Council spokesperson said, “Warminster continues to thrive, thanks to a combination of methods designed to improve the vibrancy of our town. We remain committed to making Warminster an attractive place for all, enabling businesses to flourish.”
“Last year, we successfully launched the Seasonal Markets, which injected vibrancy into the town centre and attracted both locals and visitors from further afield. These events have quickly become a highlight in Warminster’s annual calendar. The WBN estimates that the markets have collectively contributed an impressive £750,000 to the local economy.”
“While economic challenges persist, many businesses in Warminster are holding steady and showing resilience. With visible progress and growing momentum, the town is becoming an increasingly attractive and prosperous place for everyone.”
Financial investments continue to enhance the public street scene, including the repainting of finger posts, cleaning of bus shelters, and removal of weeds from the high street—helping to smarten up the town.
Looking ahead, it is hoped that large-scale town centre events will continue to grow in 2025, as well as those in the Lake Pleasure Grounds, to further promote Warminster as a destination. These include the well-established independent markets, Spring in the Park, Ice Cream and Bubbles Festival, and the Christmas Lights Switch-on.
A WBN spokesperson added, “The WBN would like to recognise the huge efforts of local businesses, volunteers, and the WTC in helping Warminster buck the trend of dwindling footfall seen in many other similar towns. We will continue to push forward and do all we can to promote and enhance Warminster for both businesses and the community alike.”
Warminster Town Council also supports other local events, including StarFest, the Warminster Book Festival, Inspire Musical Festival, the RBL 80th Anniversary of the end of WW2, Imberbus, Skatepark Jam and Warminster Carnival.
