A car has been seized and two people detained after Nike Air Max trainers were stolen from Sports Direct in Warminster — thanks to swift action by the town’s CCTV team.
Police were alerted to the theft on the afternoon of Wednesday 2nd April after staff at the store used their Shopwatch radio, which links directly to the Warminster CCTV hub, to raise the alarm.
Mark Chalmers, of the Warminster and Westbury CCTV Hub, said,
“Sports Direct contacted us on the Shopwatch radio and we tracked the offender to his car, where he dropped off the stolen goods.
“We then tracked them up to Superdrug while updating the police on the location of the vehicle and the individuals – we did this until officers stopped and arrested them.”
Warminster Police praised the joint operation, writing on social media,
“Following excellent joint working between Warminster Town CCTV, Trowbridge response officers and several PCSOs from Warminster neighbourhood teams, both individuals were detained.
“Trainers worth over £200 and various items from Superdrug were recovered. The car used to conceal the items was also seized.
“One of the suspects has been charged, while the other was issued with a community resolution.”
