A series of events are being held in Warminster next month to celebrate volunteers and encourage more people to get involved in supporting the community.
Warminster Action Group (WAG) is marking Volunteers’ Week with an afternoon tea and a number of open days showcasing its services and volunteering opportunities.
WAG is a volunteer-led grassroots charity based in Warminster which supports people through services including befriending, community shopping, prescription pick-ups, the WAG House, the Community Shed, Creative Space activities and a wide range of community support projects.
Volunteers’ Week will launch with an afternoon tea at Henford House on Tuesday 2nd June from 3pm until 4.30pm. The event is open to anyone and will serve as a thank you to WAG’s volunteers. No booking is necessary.
“We hope that anyone interested in volunteering will come along to learn about the different volunteering roles available at WAG and have a chat with our volunteers about their own volunteering experience,” said founder and chair Annalisa Davis.
The charity will also hold a series of informal open days at the WAG House in Wilson and Kennard Yard for anyone interested in finding out more about volunteering.
On Thursday 4th June from 1.30pm to 4.30pm, there will be a shopping and prescription volunteer open afternoon, giving people the chance to learn more about the flexible roles that help support residents who are unable to get out independently.
On Friday 5th June from 10am to 1pm, the upstairs Community Shed and Creative Space will be open so visitors can meet volunteers and members, see projects and activities taking place and find out how to get involved.
On Saturday 6th June from 10.30am to 1.30pm, WAG’s befriending coordinators will host an open day for anyone interested in becoming a befriender and helping support people experiencing loneliness and isolation.
“Our volunteers are absolutely incredible, and without them WAG simply wouldn’t be able to run,” said Annalisa “They give their time so generously to help other people, often around busy lives, jobs and families of their own.”
