Pupils at Sutton Veny CE Primary School enjoyed a ‘successful’ Forces Day recently, giving them a hands-on insight into life in the Army.
On Thursday 17th July, children took part in seven activities led by members of the military.
Claire Blair, the teacher who organised the day and Service Pupils Champion, said, “The military personnel who led the day were both professional and accommodating. They provided a great variety of fun and exciting activities and adjusted these for all the different year groups at our school. This was a very special day and one that the children won’t forget.”
Around 30% of children at Sutton Veny CE Primary School are from military families.
Major Frankie Whelan-Mellor said, “Lots of the children at Sutton Veny see us in uniform every day, so it’s fantastic to teach them more about what we do.
“Many of the pupils have parents who serve in the Forces, so it was a valuable opportunity to give something back to the school on behalf of the children.”
Flight Lieutenant Kyle Beresford added, “It was great to share what the armed forces do with the school, as well as being a way for the armed forces to support the local community”.
