Warminster fielded a strong team with three changes from the Saturday’s Western League fixture.
Charlie Walton and Matt Robbins were unavailable and George Walker-Haynes dropped to the bench. In came Max Walker-Wiltshire, Braden Humphreys and Tyler Gane. The subs included two of our U18 squad, Sam Allman and Matt Hurd..
In the first minute Town centre forward Jack Newman went on a run into the box and got a shot on target but the Quins’ keeper, James Jones saved well. On 14 minutes Corey Gardner shot from the edge of the penalty area and Jones pushed it wide for a corner. The resulting corner was cleared wide left but Reece curled the ball back into six-yard box, a scramble ensued and the ball ended up in the net, 0-1. The goal was credited to Jordan Pinder who later described his goal as ‘a cheeky back heal’!
Thereafter the first half was relatively uneventful. Just before the break Quins had their best chance of the half. A ball over the top sent one of their forwards clear one-on-one with Town keeper Jack Amor. The forward shot but Jack blocked his effort and the chance was gone. At the break Town led 1-0.
Manager Rob Nash replaced Reece Collyer at the start of the second-half with George Walker-Haynes. Five minutes after the restart a Braden Humphreys’ first time shot flew just wide of the goal. Two minutes later Braden turned provider sending a pinpoint cross to Jack Newman in the box. Jack’s glancing header only just cleared the crossbar.
Town were managing the game well with the defence not allowing the hosts any clear chances. With about 15 minutes left Rob Nash made three changes. Matt Hurd, one of our U18 squad came on to make his first team debut replacing Tyler Gane. Jack Duck replaced Max Walker Wiltshire and 16-year-old Sam Allman made his third substitute appearance of the week replacing Corey Gardner.
On 84 minutes Jack Duck chased down a long ball. Under pressure the defender lost the ball to Jack Newman. He passed back to Jack Duck in the box who coolly slotted the ball past the keeper Jones, 0-2.
Town were awarded a stoppage time free kick outside the penalty area and young Sam Allman stepped up to take it. He curled his shot past the wall but not for the first time, Jones saved well. The referee’s full-time whistle followed shortly and Town won their fourth consecutive match and progress to the next round of the Senior Cup.
