Around 1,500 people came together to witness the partial solar eclipse at the Lake Pleasure Grounds.
People travelled from as far as Swindon and Salisbury for the viewing event on Wednesday 12th August, which was organised by Starquest Warminster Astronomy Club and supported by Warminster Town Council.
Members of the club sold viewing glasses, answered questions and invited attendees to view the eclipse through solar telescopes.
“It was a brilliant event in the park on Wednesday night, and we were absolutely delighted by the response from everyone and that we could share our passion for astronomy with the public,” said club chairman Pete Lee.
Prior to the event, Pete visited Warminster’s primary schools and delivered free solar viewing glasses for Year 5 and 6 pupils.
He said, “It’s a fantastic opportunity for our young people to experience a real astronomical event safely, while learning a little more about the incredible world above us.”
Liz Lee, club member and deputy mayor of Warminster, said, “I am honoured to be part of the club, and the feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with so many people thanking us for organising the event.
“We feel incredibly proud that Starquest Warminster Astronomy Club, with the support of the town council, was able to bring the vibrant community together to enjoy a spectacular astronomical event in the beautiful setting of our town park.”
