Free community shed sessions launch in Warminster

Warminster adults can learn practical woodworking skills and connect with others at a new free six-week evening programme starting next month.

Organised by the Warminster Action Group (WAG), the project begins on Tuesday 13th October, running from 7pm to 9pm at the WAG Community Shed in Wilson and Kennard Yard.

Participants will work with experienced volunteers to make a wooden toolbox using hand tools, with no prior experience needed. The initiative aims to provide a supportive environment for residents to build confidence and combat evening isolation, offering an alternative for those unable to attend existing daytime sessions.

Funding for the project has been provided by Selwood Housing’s Stronger Communities Fund.

WAG Founder and Chair Annie Davis said, “The toolbox is really the starting point. People will come along, learn practical skills and hopefully go home really proud of something they’ve made themselves, but we also want people to gain confidence, make friendships and feel part of something.

“Not everyone finds it easy to walk into a social group and just start talking. Having something practical to work on together can make getting to know people feel much more natural.”

Places are free for adults aged 18 and over but are limited to six participants to ensure individual support. A second programme is planned for the New Year for those who miss out on the initial round.
