A Warminster woman has organised a fundraiser to raise vital funds for a charity that has offered invaluable support to her son’s girlfriend, who has faced a life-changing battle with meningitis.
The quiz night for Meningitis Now took place last month at the Warminster Conservative Club.
The event was organised by Carol Clarke, whose son Robert’s girlfriend, Becca, contracted meningitis during her first term at university when she was just 19. After collapsing and showing signs of sepsis, she was placed in an induced coma for two weeks. Becca spent four months in hospital and lost both legs below the knee, as well as the fingers on both hands. She has since learned to walk on prosthetic legs and received a hand transplant.
Carol’s quiz evening raised an impressive £1,045 for Meningitis Now, a charity that has supported Becca and others in similar situations.
Carol said, “I would like to thank the businesses who generously donated prizes for the raffle. It was a hugely successful event, and I was ably supported by the quizmaster team of Eric, Dave, and Chris, who came out of quizzing retirement to help. The whole evening was very well attended, great fun, and we enjoyed a selection of meals delivered by the Sea Master Fish and Chips. The winning team returned their cash prize to the charity, and in total, the whole evening raised £1,045, which is absolutely amazing.”
“I am extremely grateful to all the businesses who donated prizes for the raffle. Also, many thanks to the family and friends who generously gave their help on the night and donated prizes for the raffle to make it such an enjoyable evening.”
